We’re all guilty of it – a much-needed vacation or holiday weekend rolls around, and our healthy eating habits go right out the window. And once you “fall off the wagon,” so to speak, it sometimes feels harder to get back on track. Here are my top 5 tips for how to get your health back on track after vacation.

  • Get to the grocery store ASAP – After several days of eating out/not being able to cook in your own kitchen, your bod will thank you for whipping up a home-cooked meal. Head to the grocery store as soon as you get back home (or the morning after) to stock up on as many tasty whole and minimally-processed foods as possible.

  • Eat veggies with every meal – I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to get enough veggies while travelling. Do yourself a favor and add veggies to every meal when you return. It will help your body reset and replenish on vitamins, minerals, and all the good stuff that cheat meals typically lack.

  • Swap your evening cocktail for a mocktail – When on vacation, it’s easy to make drinking part of your daily routine. Start dismantling the habit by skipping the booze and opting instead for a glass of kombucha or sparkling water (with fruit or citrus garnishes) after a long day of getting back into the swing of things.

  • Schedule all of your workouts for the week – And honor them like you would any meeting or appointment! A solid sweat session will get you feeling back on track and help reset your metabolism.

Take advantage of this ‘clean slate’ moment – Often times we vaguely recognize the need to make a change in ourselves, but it takes an event or moment in time for us to really commit and tackle that hurdle seriously. Take this opportunity as a reset, a clean slate, a new beginning. What do you need to do in THIS moment that’s going to help you accomplish your goals? How will this be different from other times you’ve tried to change before? How are you going to systematically change your behavior and hold yourself accountable? If you’re unsure of any of these questions, start working with a coach to get you on track and accelerate your results!
